Life is just ridiculously expensive and Doodler is a big fan of not being a dick. If you can’t afford to draw just pay what you can. It’s more fun if we all draw.

Doodler does not begrudge reasonable personal wealth. And some individuals & organisations do have excess. Doodler however, is not one of them. Survival of any genuine arts based business in Sydneys insane rental market is a constant concern. If we want authentic experiences like this one, accessible to all, then something has to be done to address the imbalance. In the short term this business is largely propped up by the design Company PEOWPEOW (which is a cute way of saying the owner works a second job to pay the rent). If you are interested in assisting to keep this place open, we are not too proud to accept donations, and would welcome any enquiry.
In the longer term whilst the Australian Tax system rewards landlords for accumulating properties that they have no incentive to lease at a reasonable cost, I fear gravely for grass roots community art.
The only trickle down I have experienced over the past 20 years has smelt very suspicious.

This is our serious night, wear a nice frock, be an adult, and enjoy the dark side. Longer poses, a calmer night in general from Wednesdays chaos. A tad more serious a vibe, but lovely all the same. Draw thoughtfully.

Extraordinary Specimen

The Wallace “Extraordinary Specimen”, every Saturday we will be presenting a 2hr portrait opportunity to paint characters of distinction.
Eligibility in The 2026 Wallace Interpretive Portraiture Prize is to be one of our 2026 Extraordinary Specimens. Perfect for detailed drawing or painting. Sometimes nude, sometimes just interesting portrait worthy folks wearing pants.
