Resident Artists
Doodler is not just about art classes, we are a working professional arts and design studio, home of PEOWPEOW and Stuntmullet. Real things get made here and go out to live in the world. As we grow into our new digs we hope to incorporate more of the fruits of the eclectic arts community that has grown up around SthSthKingSt (our previous venue and gallery) and now here into this space. Below are a few official friends of DOODLER, that have been with us on this journey.
Stunt Mullet
P.S. Wallace has existed on the fringe of the art world for a long time. Noted as being a permanent fixture on the Newtown Dadaist bar scene since the mid/late 90’s, and referred to by Sam Simmons publicly once as, “being good at pub”. With no real art training as such, he is generally accepted by his peers and family as “arty”, and by strangers as “that wanker guy, you know, ...the one who refuses to drink anything other than cans of Melbourne”. Like all post-graduate trained Industrial Designers, he has a long list of mediocre achievements (outside that of his field), including being a founder and lead singer of the 90’s seminal art-post-cock-punk outfits “I may just fuck myself” and later “LambLambLambLambMan” (who’s crowning achievement was being sponsored by G & A Meats on Norton St. Leichhardt), Early 90’s Brisbane Nightclub Operator (Subterranean/Green), Late 90’s Sunglass Designer (Jonathan Sceats), Sydney Cafe owner (Vender Cafe), with a short lived hand modelling career, and a more recent invitation to model his mullet for local hairdresser Family & Friends (Chippendale). He has worked for most of the large Sydney advertising and design firms of the turn of the century. Currently (and for some 20 odd years) the founder and Art Director of the multi-disciplinary design company PEOWPEOW (producing Corporate Identities, Branding, Print Advertising, Signage, Interiors, etc.), and recently the operator of SthSthKingSt a creative art space in St Peters, and now DOODLER, home to Nude Night Life drawing.
Personal notes on Mullets
P.S.Wallace known for having one of the finest and consistently inventive mullets* in the greater Sydney area, owes a debt of gratitude to the chiselling and maintenance carried out by Warm Hands Walmsley at Friends & Family
Simon Mc’Lean
Simon McLean is a contemporary artist based in Sydney Australia. His works combine an array of gestural, expressive forms and imagery into seductively compelling compositions. With a practice spanning over 25 years. His approaches to practice are varied and continually evolving, blurring the distinctions between expressive figurative, impulsive gestural and abstract graphic.
In drawing, painting, mixed-media and print, his work continues to excite and delight. Characterised as “fluid, suggestive, and lyrical”. He always manages to engage and entice the viewer. Seducing the eye to meander throughout the image, leading it to new and intriguing discoveries.
